Missouri Supreme Court Finalized Execution Date

The death penalty has always been a polarizing issue between the left and right.

It is not quite as polarizing as abortion, but it is in that top five list.

The death penalty was part of Joe Biden’s platform in 2020, but he has done very little to address the issue, which makes the situation in Missouri all that more interesting.

Date is Set

When Biden was running for president, he stated that he wanted to “work to pass legislation to eliminate the death penalty at the federal level, and incentivize states to follow the federal government’s example.”

Biden said that he believed that those convicted of federal crimes that warranted the death penalty “should instead serve life sentences without probation or parole.”

Let’s fast forward to this week when Missouri has just confirmed the date for the second execution it plans to carry out this year.

The Missouri Supreme Court has confirmed the execution date of David Hosier, who was convicted of killing Angelina Gilpin in her Jefferson City apartment.

Gilpin had been separated from her husband and was having a romantic relationship with Hosier at the time of the killing.

His execution has been set for June 11 at the state prison in Bonne Terre, Missouri.

Hosier is the second exaction scheduled this year, which will follow the execution of Brian Dorsey on April 9.

Dorsey killed his cousin and her husband, Sarah and Ben Bonnie, in 2006.

His execution is far more controversial than that of Hosier, with prison staff even sticking up for Dorsey, saying he has been a model prison.

There have been questions about the quality of defense that Dorsey had during the trial, with attorney Megan Crane submitting a petition to halt the execution, stating, “Dorsey was experiencing drug psychosis the night of the crime and thus incapable of deliberation – the requisite intent for capital murder.”

So, here is my question… with all the noise that Democrats usually make over the death penalty, why, especially in the case of Dorsey, are Democrats, Joe Biden in particular, perfectly quiet about these two exactions being held in Missouri?
