Mike Pence has always been a rather mild-mannered person.
A man of deep faith, he takes “turn the other cheek” literally, and it has hurt him at times during his political career.
He allowed Trump to steamroll him after the election certification, and MAGA lost complete respect for the man, but something changed for the debate.
Fight of His Life
Pence started the debate off pretty rough… it was as though he wanted to come out strong, but his demeanor would not let him unleash.
About 30 minutes or so in, that changed, and Pence started to show some aggression, and it paid off.
Pence got a bump in the numbers and a bigger war chest, reported The Hill.
On Monday, oil tycoon Forrest Lucas held a fundraising event for Pence, raising $250,000, which was his biggest single-event haul during this campaign, reported Politico.
Victor Smith, who served as Pence’s secretary of commerce when he was Indiana governor, stated, “The comments were, ‘Gosh, you look like you had a little fight in you, we love seeing it, where did that guy come from.’”
Smith added, “He’s now redefining who he is. He just needs to stay under the hoop.”
Pence allowed Trump to attack him for two years straight, barely saying a word, but about two weeks before the debate, Pence started to fire back, flat-out stating that Trump misunderstood the Constitution as to his role in the certification.
Will this be enough to keep Pence around a little longer?
Well, in the last polling that I saw, Pence was hanging around 4.4 percent, and three percent will be the qualifier for the second debate, but Trump will not be at that one either.
I still don’t know what Pence’s end game is, however, because he clearly has no shot of winning the presidency. He will not be asked, nor do I think he would even consider joining Trump’s administration, so I just don’t get it.
By the time ballots are cast, Pence will be gone, so I guess the real question is, who will he throw his support behind?
Furthermore, what will he do if Trump wins the nomination after listening to years of attacks against him?
