Mike Johnson Violates Hastert Rule

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson cannot seem to make anyone happy.

The latest?

Johnson has passed a $1.2 TRILLION dollar plan for government funding.

Yes, it is the same plan that the majority of Republicans in the House of Representatives had massive issues with.

Unfortunately for Johnson, this means he broke a BIG rule

The Hastert rule.

Ever heard of it?

The Hastert rule states that the Speaker of the House will absolutely NOT schedule a vote for any sort of bill or plan until it has the majority of their party’s support.

Now, Johnson has put himself in great danger when it comes to maintaining his role as House Speaker.

His latest actions could easily be viewed by the GOP House members as defiance.

Perhaps we could have anticipated that Speaker Mike Johnson was going to have a tough time pleasing everyone, even those within his own party.

Look at what happened to his predecessor, Kevin McCarthy of California. McCarthy was the first person to ever be REMOVED from the role of Speaker of the House.

"I may have lost this vote today, but as I walk out of this chamber I feel fortunate to have served," McCarthy said back when it happened.

"I wouldn't change a thing," McCarthy continued.

McCarthy was booted out by his own party after Matt Gaetz from Florida filed a motion to vacate and got enough support to make it happen.

"At the end of the day, the country needs a speaker that can be relied upon," Representative Adam Schiff, a Democrat from California said. "We don’t trust him. Their members don’t trust him. And you need a certain degree of trust to be the speaker."

But do they trust Johnson? At least Mike Johnson hasn't been cannibalized by his own party like McCarthy was... yet.
