"I, with the support of administration and board, have provided Mel Tucker with written notice of intent to terminate his contract for cause," Haller said in a statement.
"This notification process is required as part of his existing contract. The notice provides Tucker with seven calendar days to respond and present reasons to me and the interim president as to why he should not be terminated for cause," it added.

"Earlier in September, the university suspended Tucker without pay after USA Today reported he was under investigation for alleged sexual harassment. Michigan State University’s notice provides the coach seven days to provide reasons he should not be terminated," CNN reported.
"The investigation into the coach’s conduct began in December, Haller previously said at a news conference earlier this month," it continued.
The allegations include claims that Tucker made comments about the caller's body, masturbated, and made sexually explicit comments during the phone call with Tracy.
Tucker has argued against the allegations, claiming that the investigation into Tracy's accusations has not been fair.
Tucker, who is also married, claimed that the actions during the phone call were mutual. No police report was filed at the time of the incident.
The high-profile case may not be officially concluded for some time, but the university has already made its decision and plans to remove Tucker from employment as soon as possible.
