Michelle Obama fails to quell divorce rumors with latest social media post
Former first lady Michelle Obama appears to be doing the bare minimum to address rumors that she and former President Barack Obama are now living separately and likely getting a divorce.
In a post to social media detailing plans to honor Hadiya Pendleton, who was murdered just days after Barack Obama's second inauguration, at The Obama Presidential Center, Michelle overlooked growing rumors that she had split with the former president.
In her letter, Michelle referred to Barack as "my husband" and said, "Hadiya had an extraordinary light that will not be forgotten, and Barack and I look forward to honoring her memory."
This appeared to be something of a bare minimum statement designed to quell the rumors without committing to anything.
This comes as rumors continue to strengthen amid reports that the couple are living separately and engaged in a discreet divorce process.
High-profile Absences
Rumors of the power couple splitting exploded after Michelle Obama chose to not attend the memorial of former President Jimmy Carter in December.
Barack Obama attended the ceremony on his own and was spotted chatting it up with President-elect Donald Trump which got the Internet buzzing on its own considering the apparently easy banter between the two.
But it was the image of the Trumps, Bushes, and Clintons together alongside a single Barack Obama that made it clear that something was going on and all was not well at the Obama home.
These rumors only gained strength when Barack Obama attended Trump's inauguration once again on his own with Michelle Obama mysteriously absent.
According to anonymous sources in Washington D.C.'s political circles, Michelle Obama feels like she has had to sacrifice too much to support Barack Obama's political career.
There are even claims that Barack Obama was pressuring Michelle Obama to run for president, which she stubbornly resisted, and Barack has been said by some to blame his wife for Trump winning a second term in office.
Uncertain Future
All of these rumors are anonymously sourced and as such should be weighed accordingly but it is undeniable that something has gone wrong with one of America's most powerful couples.
Barack Obama has been a puppet master of sorts for the past decade even after leaving the White House in 2016, but that influence appears to be in danger.
Furthermore, the optics of the couple's marriage falling apart won't help preserve their dwindling influence.
The fact that neither Barack or Michelle Obama has come out to outright deny these rumors suggests to some that their marriage is either already over or struggling in a very real way.
