In addition to all the other problems we have with Congress right now, we also have a Senator who is unable to do his job because of criminal charges.
I am referring to Senator Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), who skipped a security briefing on Israel.
He did so because he has been charged with being a foreign agent for Egypt in relation to the bribery indictment that was handed down a few weeks ago.
Going to Skip That
Menendez is now facing a multi-count indictment for accepting bribes to help one of his Egyptian buddies.
Menendez was pushing foreign aid to Egypt, as well as allegedly strong-arming local prosecutors to help a friend out of a jam.
For his troubles, his wife received a Mercedes, and the couple had about $480,000 stashed around the house in envelopes.
Menendez has been defiant, refusing to resign, but he has been removed from some committee assignments and now he is not attending the security briefing, which was his decision.
He is basically collecting a government paycheck for doing nothing, just riding out the term.
When asked why he skipped the briefing, he stated, “I made my own decision not to attend.
“After 30 years of doing foreign policy and [being] intimately involved with our relationship with Israel, there’s nothing I’m going to hear in a classified hearing that is going to alter my view of what needs to be done.”
In his defiance regarding the charges, Menendez accused the Department of Justice of "primitive hunting, which is where you continue to hound your prey until it's exhausted and you kill it.
“I'm not going to succumb to that. The bottom line is that I have been loyal to only one country in the world for 50 years. It's called the United States of America.”
He has also stated that he is being singled out because of his ethnic background, which is a complete and utter joke.
This is now the second time that Menendez has been caught with his hand in the cookie jar, and it will hopefully be the last.
