Melania Trump's office rejects Jill Biden meeting

Melania Trump's office issued a statement on Wednesday in response to her refusal to participate in a meeting with the first lady, Jill Biden, at the White House.

Today, President-elect Donald Trump, the spouse of Melania Trump, is met with President Joe Biden at the White House to deliberate on a "peaceful and orderly transition" of power, as The Daily Mail reported.

"Mrs. Trump will not be attending today's meeting at the White House. Her husband's return to the Oval Office to commence the transition process is encouraging, and she wishes him great success," Melania Trump's office said in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) Wednesday morning.

"In this instance, several unnamed sources in the media continue to provide false, misleading, and inaccurate information. Be discerning with your source of news."

Previous Notes

Melania's comment follows reports that she turned down an offer from Jill Biden, which was a component of the handover of power following Trump's victory against Kamala Harris in the November 5 election.

"She ain't going," an unnamed source familiar with Melania's decision said in a New York Post article published Monday.

An individual familiar with the matter brought up the now-dismissed classified documents case involving the FBI raid on Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.

"Jill Biden's husband authorized the FBI snooping through her underwear drawer. The Bidens are disgusting," the source said, adding, "Jill Biden isn't someone Melania needs to meet."

More Traditions

While it is customary for the wives of the presidents to meet upon taking office, Melania broke with precedent during her husband's first term by not attending.

It took Melania a few months after Trump's inauguration in 2017 to relocate into the White House. She and Trump's son Barron Trump, who was ten years old at the time, concluded the school year.

After the president is inaugurated, the first lady usually moves into the White House.

A source close to the Trumps told People magazine earlier this month: "If Melania becomes first lady again, of course people expect her to move into the White House and perform appropriate duties."
