Melania Trump offers inside details of 2005 wedding in new memoir
Former first lady Melania Trump has always been known to carefully safeguard her privacy, but with the release of her new memoir, she has come forward with fascinating and intimate details of her life.
Among the revelations contained in Melania are details of Mrs. Trump's wedding to her husband, Donald, including fun facts about the venue, the food, and the stunning, hand-crafted gown she wore when saying “I do” to the future president, as the Inquisitr reports.
Wedding day details revealed
The 2005 nuptials of Donald and Melania Trump in Palm Beach Florida formalized a relationship that would take the pair from parenthood all the way to the White House and beyond, and the memoir's recent release offers a glimpse into that glittering day.
In the book at itself and in a promotional video ahead of its release, Melania Trump talks glowingly about the festivities, reported to have carried a price tag of roughly $1 million.
Guests of the famous pair enjoyed a $50,000 wedding cake created by famed chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten and danced the night away to live performances from Elton John and Billy Joel.
One of the most staggering features of the event, however, was the custom-made Dior bridal gown Melania wore, which was comprised of 60 meters of fabric, 1,500 rhinestones and endless pearls, a garment which took 550 hours to complete.
Despite all of the intricate details offered by Mrs. Trump about the trappings of her wedding day, one X user aptly observed, “You said more about the chef that cooked your food than your husband, lol.”
New insights into enigmatic figure
Mrs. Trump's memoir delves into never-before-discussed realms of her life, including the toll taken on her family by unfounded allegations that her son, Barron, suffered from autism, as the BBC reports.
“I was appalled by such cruelty,” Mrs. Trump said of rumors started by comedienne Rosie O'Donnell, adding, “It was clear to me that she was not interested in raising awareness about autism. I felt that she was attacking my son because she didn't like my husband.”
Notably the memoir also contains Mrs. Trump's pro-choice stance on abortion, which deviates significantly from the platform of the Republican Party her husband represents.
“It is imperative to guarantee that woman have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government,” Mrs. Trump wrote. “A woman's fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes.”
Despite what some might view as a problematic conflict between her views and those of her husband's, the former president dismissed such speculation, stating, “We spoke about it. And I said, you have to write what you believe,” a sign of mutual respect in a romance that continues to stand the test of time, despite the harsh spotlight always upon it.
