Melania Relives Rally Shooting in New Memoir
I am not sure how long Melania Trump had been writing her book, but she did manage to put the Trump assassination attempt in there.
In the memoir that is due out this week, she explains what was happening at home while her husband was shot on stage.
This, of course, includes Barron’s reaction to finding out his father was just shot.
Dad’s Hurt
According to Trump, he and Barron have a pretty good relationship, and there is little reason to doubt that.
Before Barron went away to school, there were often pictures of Barron with his father on the course or at functions.
Melania was not at the rally that day, but her instincts took over her actions when she saw Trump go down.
She remembered, “‘He’s on the ground,’ I called out. ‘Are you sure he’s OK?’”
Melania felt horrible for Barron, who had to repeatedly watch the footage on the news, not to mention the gossip he surely heard from friends.
She wrote, “We replayed the footage and watched it together. We were both in shock. As we tuned into the news coverage, I felt a deep sense of distress.”
Melania continued, “Can I explain how traumatic it is for a child to witness the attempted murder of his father? The relentless replay of the rally footage on the news only intensified our anxiety.
“Each time we sat Donald’s bloodied face, I had to remind myself that I had actually just spoken to him, heard his voice, and knew that he was safe.”
After the assassination attempt, Melania penned a letter in the hopes of getting the political rhetoric to die down.
At the time, she wrote, “A monster who recognized my husband as an inhuman political machine attempted to wring out Donald’s passion — his laughter, ingenuity, love of music and inspiration. The core factors of my husband’s life — his human side — were buried below the political machine.
“Let us not forget that differing opinions, policy and political games are inferior to love … Political concepts are simple when compared to us, human beings.”
The rhetoric died down for about 48 hours, then Joe Biden and Democrats immediately went back to work characterizing Trump as a danger to democracy and the world.
And about two months later, someone else tried to kill him.
