Melania Abortion Comments in Memoir Stir the Pot
Donald Trump claims to be pro-life, but he says he believes that abortion should be a state issue, not a federal issue.
He is adamant that he would never sign a federal abortion law if it was put in front of him in the Oval Office.
I am now wondering if that position has been influenced by Melania, or if she just dropped a wedge between herself and conservatives.
Woman’s Fundamental Right
Roe v. Wade was overturned because it was a flawed legal decision wrongly used to support abortion for decades.
We finally had a Supreme Court that recognized that and reversed the decision.
This was predicted by the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, by the way, who argued the case was about the doctor’s right to perform the procedure, not the woman’s right to have the abortion.
Democrats have been fuming ever since, saying that abortion is a woman’s fundamental right, and Melania Trump agrees.
In her memoir, she wrote, “Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body. I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life.
“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body?
“I have always believed it is critical for people to take care of themselves first.”
She concludes, “The slogan ‘My Body, My Choice’ is typically associated with women activists and those who align with the pro-choice side of the debate.
“But if you really think about it, ‘My Body, My Choice’ applies to both sides — a woman’s right to make an independent decision involving her own body, including the right to choose life. Personal freedom.”
I am curious to see how that will play for Donald Trump and his supporters.
To this point, Trump supporters have idolized Melania Trump and put her on a pedestal.
I am curious to see the fallout once that book gets out, coupled with her refusal to campaign with or for Trump during this election cycle, save a few fundraisers for the LGBTQ+ crowd and a contractually obligated appearance at the RNC.
Donald Trump’s campaign has yet to comment on the comments in the book. Donald Trump has referenced the book on the campaign trail, but he said he had not read it yet.
