McConnell criticizes Trump pardons of January 6 defendants
Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is no longer the GOP Senate leader, but he is still creating some headaches for Donald Trump.
McConnell went off after Trump’s pardons of January 6 defendants.
He called the pardons a mistake and still insists it was an insurrection rather than just a riot.
Here We Go Again
McConnell and Trump have not been on the same page for quite some time.
The relationship started off nice and cozy after Trump was elected in 2016, but it soured rather quickly, and it has been in the shredder since January 6, 2021, when the riot at the Capitol took place.
Dems immediately labeled it an insurrection, mostly because it took place at the Capitol, but I fail to see how it would be considered to that level.
It was embarrassing, it was a riot, it clearly got out of control, but to call it an insurrection is a bit of a reach in my eyes.
McConnell does not agree, telling CBS’s Lesley Stahl, “I think pardoning people who’ve been convicted is a mistake.”
Then he really went off, stating, “Trump and his supporters are trying to change what happened on Jan. 6.”
When Stahl chimed in, stating, “They’re calling it a day of love. They call the rioters martyrs.” McConnel responded, “Yeah, no, it was an insurrection.”
McConnell also stated, “Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day.”
I still believe Trump made a mistake in not allowing the violent offenders who attacked police to remain in jail.
I firmly believe that will be used against the GOP over the next two election cycles.
Dems could screw that up, and they seem intent on doing it, which is good news for Trump. If Dems don’t get off their high horses about the woke agenda and protecting their corruption, they could be handing the GOP control of Congress and the White House for many years to come.
