Trump-backed Blake Masters has been behind the 8-ball with Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) from the get-go.
Kelly should be an easy target, but Masters is a bit of a whacko and he has not been able to break through in this race.
He did make one small move to narrow the gap, but the last few polls have shown him slipping again.
The result of which has been Senator McConnell (R-KY) pulling back about $9 million in ads that he had planned to run for Masters.
Time to Go
In the latest polling, Masters is trailing Kelly 35-47.
Down 12 points this late in the race, it does not seem possible that even Kelly can blow that lead (although Masters is closer in the Trafalgar poll, but that is way off of all other polling).
So, McConnell is going to put his money to use in other spots.
All is not lost for Masters, however, as some outside groups have stepped up to help him out.
So far, about $7.5 million of the $9 million has been absorbed by groups such as Sentinel Action, Saving Arizona, Our American Century, Club for Growth, and Restoration PAC.
McConnell is also going to put some facetime in with Masters on the campaign trail.
The Senate Minority Leader is scheduled to appear at a fundraiser for Masters, but I am not sure if that will do more harm than good for Masters.
Masters is a big-time MAGA candidate, and MAGA despises McConnell, so this should be interesting.
