McCarthy Rejects Invitation from Zelensky

Okay, so I have to admit it… House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is doing a great job so far.

I am not going to say that I support everything he has done, but I like the way he is progressing in his leadership role.

He did two things recently that really have me happy with him.

No Thanks

The first of these was canceling his planned photo op in Taiwan.

Newsweek reported that due to rising tensions, McCarthy will meet with Taiwan’s president here in the United States. As most of you are surely aware by now, the one thing that irks me more than anything is members of Congress who think their boots on the ground are a true deterrent against an enemy nation attacking.

The second thing he did was just reported by Just the News.

Ukrainian President Zelensky invited McCarthy to come to Ukraine so he could suck up to McCarthy for money. McCarthy told him no.

In turning down the invite, McCarthy stated, "I will continue to get my briefings and others, but I don't have to go to Ukraine or Kyiv to see it. And my point has always been, I won't provide a blank check for anything.

"Let's be very clear about what I said: no blank checks, OK? So, from that perspective, I don't have to go to Ukraine to understand where there's a blank check or not."

Zelensky believes that McCarthy coming there in person would change his mind, stating, "I think that Speaker McCarthy, he never visited Kyiv or Ukraine, and I think it would help him with his position.

"Mr. McCarthy, he has to come here to see how we work, what's happening here, what war caused us, which people are fighting now, who are fighting now. And then after that, make your assumptions."

What I would tell Zelensky is that the United States has provided the overwhelming majority of aid that has been given to Ukraine, and it is not even close. Perhaps he should be inviting leadership from other countries to come and start asking them for money.

If I sound aggravated over this, I am, because this war has put our country at risk in terms of being able to defend itself. Our weapons stores are depleted because Biden continues to treat our weapons stores like a shopping list for Ukraine.

I have always stated that I do not want Ukraine to fall into the hands of Russia, but we are not the only country with interests here. Not to mention the fact our country is more than $30 trillion in debt, and we simply cannot afford to be a weapons Costco for Ukraine.

McCarthy gets a huge thumbs up from me for turning down this invite by Zelensky.
