On Tuesday, Joe Biden met with leadership from the House and Senate.
It would appear it was a set-up by Biden to give Senator Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Minority House Leader Jeffries (D-N.Y.) some talking points rather than an honest negotiation.
Biden refused to budge on his debt ceiling stance, so Speaker McCarthy (R-CA) walked out of the meeting with no movement at all, reports the New York Times.
This was clearly nothing more than a political stunt by Biden, which led to Senator Manchin (D-W.V.) calling the entire process "ridiculous."
No Movement
After leaving the meeting, McCarthy stated, "I didn't find progress in this meeting. Staff will continue to meet, and we'll get back together on Friday, and hopefully the president then can change the path of the last 97 days."
McCarthy added that their staffs would meet "to see if we could find places that we could find savings and be able to come to an agreement on the debt ceiling."
As Manchin points out in this Fox News video, that meeting seems ridiculous if Biden has no intention of backing down from his hardline stance…
When the idea of using the 14th Amendment to ram through an increase in the debt ceiling was brought up by the media, McCarthy responded, "Well, yeah. Really think about this, if you're the leader of the free world … and you're going to the 14th Amendment to look at something like that, I would think you're kind of a failure in working with people across the sides of the aisle or working with your own party to get something done."
Schumer and Jeffries also held a press conference after the meeting, stating that he, Biden, and Jeffries were willing to take default off the table but McCarthy was not. It was an idiotic statement considering their guy is in the White House. Of course they do not want to default.
I still believe that McCarthy is doing the right thing because if he moves on this, Biden will refuse to budge on anything in that budget.
It should be an easy decision for Biden… cut back spending and you get your debt ceiling increased. But Biden wants to continue to play the tough guy here.
Let him be the one that is in the White House when the economy crashes and countries remove the U. S. dollar as the standard, because that is what will happen if Biden refuses to budge.
