The definition of insanity is the doing something over and over again, the exact same way, yet somehow expecting a different result.
That is what House Leader McCarthy (R-CA) is doing right now.
He is not doing anything to change the outcome, but he keeps taking votes that come out the same exact way every time… him not coming close to landing the 218 votes he needs.
Time to Move On
I have made it pretty clear that I do not think McCarthy is the man for this job.
He has no backbone and he is too embedded with the swamp to be the effective Speaker we need him to be.
The contingent of Republicans that do not want him are clearly not backing down, and McCarthy is not doing enough to pacify them, so he keeps getting the same result.
The establishment is turned on its ear right now, but I love this. House Republicans clearly learned from the mistake of putting McConnell back in power, so let’s do it right this time.
Rep. Bryon Donalds (R-FL) has now been nominated by the contingent against McCarthy, but he has no realistic chance of winning.
Even so, Rep. Boebert (R-CO) called for McCarthy to remove his name from consideration, stating, “You’ve been having my favorite president call us and tell us we need to knock this off.
“I think it actually needs to be reversed. The president needs to tell Kevin McCarthy that ‘Sir, you do not have the votes and it’s time to withdraw.’”
She was referring to Donald Trump, who recently posted, “REPUBLICANS, DO NOT TURN A GREAT TRIUMPH INTO A GIANT & EMBARRASSING DEFEAT.
“IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE, YOU DESERVE IT. Kevin McCarthy will do a good job, and maybe even a GREAT JOB – JUST WATCH!”
Donalds, on the caucus having the power to hold the Speaker accountable, stated, “This was a mainstay rule in our chamber that empowered all the members of Congress.
“And Nancy Pelosi is the one who stripped it. And so we think it is important for our institution to function correctly on behalf of the American people to put it back in place.”
McCarthy is going to have to bend or this will never end and it will go down as the biggest embarrassment of GOP leadership, and there have been plenty from which to choose.
