McCarthy Latest to Condemn Trump Dinner with Fuentes

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is now the latest to take a shot at Trump over his recent dinner meeting with Ye and Nick Fuentes.

It was not so much the criticism of the dinner as it was the veiled shots at Trump in the process.

It is just my opinion, but it seems to me that the approach that McCarthy took here was twofold to both protect himself against Trump's rage as well all distance himself from Trump overall.

McCarthy, on the meeting, stated, "I don't think anybody should be spending any time with Nick Fuentes.

"He has no place in this Republican party. I think President Trump came out four times and condemned him, and didn't know who he was.

"The president had meetings with who he wants. I don't think anybody, though, should have a meeting with Nick Fuentes. And his views should – are nowhere within the Republican Party and within this country itself."

When asked about the recent comments by Ye, McCarthy added, "I think Kanye West should — and I don't think those are right comments and I don't think he should associate with them as well. I'm very clear in my position."

Those words were chosen rather carefully by McCarthy to satisfy the media and Democrats while hopefully not aggravating Trump too much.

For his part, Trump had to know this was going to happen, and he surely knows Republicans have to condemn the meeting, but I am just surprised that Trump has not been more vocal regarding Fuentes and condemning him.

I have yet to see a public statement by Trump specifically on that.

This was all a purposeful move by Ye, of that I have no doubt. It was a setup to hurt Trump's profile, which is rather baffling because Trump has done nothing but be kind to Ye.

I also think McCarthy would prefer for Trump to stay on the sidelines in the upcoming 2024 election.

He has to see the writing on the wall and backing Trump will crush him politically if Trump loses that election, not to mention how much damage it will do to the Republican effort to take back Congress completely.

This will make for some interesting days as this all continues to play out.
