Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Mayorkas could soon see his future in this administration rely on the kindness of Democrats in the Senate.
Reports surfaced on Thursday that legislation for his impeachment may be on the floor very soon.
The reports also stated that the legislation may not have a motion to table, which could actually create some resistance in the House among Republicans.
Put Up for Shut Up
This probably comes as no surprise, but the resolution is reportedly going to be put on the floor by Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
Now, you guys know my stance on statement legislation, but I am not so sure this would not get through the House and Senate without some Democrat support.
Border Democrats are furious with Biden right now, and Mayorkas is the architect of the border situation that has them all upset.
The way this is being set up, Mayorkas could wind up with an impeachment recommendation coming from the House without it ever going through a committee.
Now, it would then be up to Senator Schumer (D-N.Y.) to order the impeachment hearing, and I am not so sure he would be willing to do that with some border Senators openly attacking Biden for his border plan.
This is also a move that could hurt Republicans if the resolution is passed in this fashion.
Rep. McCarthy (R-CA) had pounded Democrats on congressional processes, and this end-around would clearly be ignoring the usual process, which would give Democrats a lot of ammo to use against Republicans, as well as giving Schumer an excuse not to move forward.
Let me give you one more scenario to consider…
It has been made quite clear in recent days that there is a contingent of MAGA in the House that does really like Greene and the way she goes about things.
Her shortcuts regarding the expulsion of Rep. Tlaib (D-MI) brought that to light.
As much as they all want Mayorkas gone, this measure could fail knowing her chosen avenue could do the party more harm than good.
