I have seen the race card played a lot of different ways, but this one takes the cake.
New Orleans Democrat Mayor LaToya Cantrell used taxpayer funds to upgrade flights to business class or first class.
This is forbidden by city policy, but wait until you hear her excuse.
My Own Safety
Why did Cantrell spend $30k of taxpayer money to upgrade her flights?
She claims it was for her safety because she is a black woman.
Now, I have flown quite a bit in my life, and I have to say, I have seen and sat next to plenty of black women in planes, and not a single one of them was harmed.
When the report first surfaced, the mayor responded, “All expenses incurred doing business on behalf of the city of New Orleans will not be reimbursed to the city of New Orleans.”
She continued, “One thing is clear: I do my job, and I will continue to do it with distinction and integrity every step of the way.
“That’s what I have to say on that.”
The city policy on this reads, “Employees are required to purchase the lowest airfare available… Employees who choose an upgrade from coach, economy, or business class flights are solely responsible for the difference in cost.
“Any reconciliation of travel expenses that results in overpayment by the City requires that the employee reimburse the City within twenty business days.”
In defending her expenses, Cantrell stated, “As all women know, our health and safety are often disregarded and we are left to navigate alone.
“As the mother of a young child whom I live for, I am going to protect myself by any reasonable means in order to ensure I am there to see her grow into the strong woman I am raising her to be.
“Anyone who wants to question how I protect myself just doesn’t understand the world Black women walk in.”
I love it… when in doubt, play the race card because anyone that challenges you is then immediately a racist.
Something tells me there are quite a few black women in New Orleans that have flown coach are not going to accept this.
