Matt Gaetz Considering Political Comeback
When Donald Trump announced that then-Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) would be his pick for attorney general, Gaetz immediately resigned his seat.
That now appears to have been a move to halt the release of the House Ethics report that was due to come out against him.
Now, with the report having been released anyway, Gaetz appears ready to make a political comeback.
Change of Career
This weekend, Steve Bannon was at AmericaFest, floating the idea of Gaetz running for a House seat again, but the crowd did not seem too enthused about it…

Gaetz has already stated that his time in the House is done, but it was reported over the weekend that Gaetz may consider a run for Rubio’s Senate seat.
Gaetz has already lined up a spot on NewsNation, but that does not sound like it is whetting his appetite enough.
On Sunday, Gaetz stated, “Many have asked which perch I will be fighting from next, and some of you throughout this conference have even given me a few suggestions.
“My fellow Floridians have asked me to eye the governor’s mansion in Tallahassee, maybe special counsel to go after the insider trading for my former colleagues in Congress.
“It seems I may not have had enough support in the United States Senate. Maybe I’ll just run for Marco Rubio’s vacant seat in the United States Senate and join some of those folks.”
If he does decide to run, he is going to have to fend off the report from the House Ethics Committee, which was released this weekend.
The report centers around a relationship between Gaetz and a former county tax collector in Florida named Joel Greenberg, who was given an 11-year sentence in 2022.
Greenberg stated that Gaetz used to use his SeekingArrangement.com account to line up escorts, having paid thousands over the years for women and drugs.
The report stated, “Text messages obtained by the Committee show that Representative Gaetz would also ask women to bring drugs to their rendezvous, in some instances requesting marijuana cartridges and repaying the women directly, but in other cases requesting ‘a full compliment [sic] of party favors,’ ‘vitamins,’ or ‘rolls.’
“Representative Gaetz sent one woman several hundred dollars for marijuana cartridges. One woman stated that, with respect to a 2018 Bahamas trip, ‘[M]yself and [Representative Gaetz’s then-girlfriend] brought drugs with us, and I do know that Matt supplied [his then-girlfriend] with money.
“Another woman said that she brought cocaine to at least one event with Representative Gaetz and that she witnessed him taking cocaine or ecstasy on at least five occasions.
“Mr. Greenberg told the Committee that he would typically provide drugs, such as ecstasy, for events he attended and Representative Gaetz would pay him back in cash. Several other women observed Representative Gaetz to be under the influence of drugs.
“Additionally, nearly every witness interviewed observed Representative Gaetz using marijuana.”
One of the women Gaetz reportedly met with was a minor (17 years old).
That particular allegation was referred, but the local DA’s office never filed charges against Gaetz.
Even though Gaetz never had charges filed against him, I think this report would make it rather difficult for him ever to win an elected office again, as this report would be front and center by both his primary and general election challenger.
If you ask me, the GOP and Trump would be best served to simply cut ties with Gaetz, especially since nobody in the party seems to like him.
