Manhattan DA Agrees to Delay Trump Hush Money Trial

Donald Trump has scored another win against Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, and he did not even have to fight over it.

Prosecutors in the hush money case have agreed to a 30-day delay so Trump’s defense team has more time to go over documents that were recently turned over as part of discovery.

While the 30 days is great news for Trump, his defense is pushing for 90, hoping to continue to push the trial back until after the general election.

Need to Push It Back

The Bragg case is about ledger entries that were made in hush money payments made by Donald Trump.

Bragg stacked the charges to make each entry a charge, which is a bit over the top compared to the norm.

Generally speaking, cases like this that I have seen before lump all the entries together.

Additionally, these cases usually wind up with a fine and a rap across the knuckles, but Bragg chose to go this route to try to ensure that he gets at least one felony conviction against Trump.

Manhattan US Attorney Damian Williams recently turned over additional evidence, to the tune of more than 31,000 pages.

The report stated that Williams will have more documents in the coming days.

When the documents were received, Trump’s attorneys stated they needed “at least” 90 days to go through the evidence, but Bragg’s office countered with a 30-day delay, which would move the case back to late April.

Anna Cominsky, a professor at New York Law School, commented on how she thinks Merchan will rule.

She stated, “The judge is likely to grant the 30-day delay.

“Given the recently filed motion by the defense, the judge may also permit limited motion practice which may add an additional delay. Beyond that I expect him to hold firm on the trial date.”

Merchan has not announced when he will offer his ruling, but time is ticking.

The original trial date was March 25, so we should see a ruling from him any day on this.

UPDATE: Merchan has since ruled on the motion, and he will delay the trial by 30 days per the prosecution's request.
