Manchin Says He Will Not Back the Harris Filibuster to Codify Roe v. Wade

Kamala Harris does not like the rules of the game, so she is trying to do what Democrats do best.. change the rules to benefit them.

To that point, Harris recently stated that she would like to break the filibuster rule to codify Roe. v. Wade before the end of this term.

That rule will not be supported by Senator Joe Manchin (I-W.V.), which means it will never pass.

Sorry, Kamala

To his credit, Joe Manchin has defended the filibuster throughout Biden’s term, even though Democrats tried to break it numerous times.

While Manchin has gone back on his word regarding reconciliation, he has not broken on this particular issue.

When Manchin was asked about Harris wanting to break the filibuster, he responded, “Shame on her.

“She knows the filibuster is the Holy Grail of democracy. It’s the only thing that keeps us talking and working together. If she gets rid of that, then this would be the House on steroids.”

He continued, “That ain’t going to happen. I think that basically can destroy our country, and my country is more important to me than any one person or any one person’s ideology. … I think it’s the most horrible thing.”

I agree with Manchin on this one.

Without the filibuster rule, a simple majority could wreak havoc if they also hold the House majority.

This rule forces cooperation from the other side of the aisle, which I believe is a good thing regardless of who holds the power.

Call me naïve, but I still believe we can return to a time when both parties could sit down and negotiate.

When you have the majority, you get the big win, but the other side needs to come away from legislation, feeling as though they got something they wanted out of it now.

It is that dirty word called “compromise” that can do wonders when you are no longer the party in power and want something passed.

Dems are being very short-sighted about this because if they break the filibuster, you better believe the GOP will do the same thing when it comes into power.

God forbid these people sit down and actually do their jobs by getting input into legislation from the other side.

This all-or-nothing attitude in Congress needs to end, period. Sadly, I don’t believe that will happen anytime soon.
