Longtime VA Democrat Shares Cancer Diagnosis

A man who has been a part of the Democrat scene in Virginia politics for decades just got some very bad news.

Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) announced that he has been diagnosed with cancer.

However, he stated that he is very confident that he will have a “successful” outcome in his fight against the disease.

I Can Beat It

Connolly has been in politics since 1995, but not always at the federal level.

His first position was as a member of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, where he served for nearly a decade.

He became Chairman in 2003 and served in that position until 2009 when he ran for Congress and won VA-11.

In 2020, he was also serving as the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

Connolly is one of those members of Congress who prefers to work behind the scenes instead of making headlines with outrageous social media posts.

He revealed this week that he was just diagnosed with esophageal cancer just before the election.

He stated, “A few days ago, I learned I joined the ranks of millions of Americans. I have cancer of the esophagus. It was a surprise because, except for some intermittent abdominal aches and pains, I had no symptoms.

“Cancer can be tough. But so am I.

“I will attack this the only way I know how — with Irish fight and humor. With a great team of doctors, nurses, and medical technicians, we are very confident in a successful outcome.”

He also stated that while he will continue to do his job, there will be times when he is a bit fatigued, so be patient with him.

We hope you get better, soon, Rep. Connolly, as cancer is not something I would wish on my worst enemy.
