Leftists lose their minds after Teamsters refuses to endorse Harris

The Democrats, including members of the White House, are losing their minds over the fact that the leadership of Teamster's union recently refused to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

Now, according to Fox News, several Democrats are lashing out at Teamsters.

First, we will catch you up to speed on this story.

Then, we will look at the Democrats' response.

Background

On Wednesday, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters indicated that it would not be endorsing either Harris or former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

In a statement, Teamsters President Sean M. O’Brien said:

Unfortunately, neither major candidate was able to make serious commitments to our union to ensure the interests of working people are always put before Big Business. We sought commitments from both Trump and Harris not to interfere in critical union campaigns or core Teamsters industries — and to honor our members’ right to strike — but were unable to secure those pledges.

Fox reports that this is the first time in three decades that Teamsters has not endorsed a candidate.

The unusual bit is that Teamsters is refusing to endorse Trump despite the fact that the union's internal polling found that union members clearly support Trump, by a margin of nearly 30 percentage points. The union's leadership is facing significant criticism over this.

Trump, for his part, took all of this as a win, saying, "It's been many, many years since [Teamsters] supported a Republican or did this."

Democrats throw a tantrum

Judging by the response from the Democrats, it would seem that they thought that they were entitled to the Teamsters's endorsement.

U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA), for example, tried to claim that the "workers are misinformed or uniformed" for supporting Trump.

After calling Trump the "most anti-labor president we have ever had," McGovern added, "It’s clear that these workers are misinformed or uninformed about Trump’s record on labor. [Trump's] allegiance isn’t toward working people."

U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) called Teamsters non-endorsement "disappointing," saying, "Donald Trump refused to support a pension bill for Teamsters. It was Biden-Harris and Democrats who saved Teamsters pensions in the Butch Lewis Act of our American Rescue Plan — without one Republican vote."

It was the same story from many, many other Democrats. Some even accused O'Brien of essentially pushing Teamsters in a Republican direction by supporting Republican candidates. The White House, for its part, declined to comment on the situation, except to claim that Harris has a "strong union record."
