Latest CNN Poll Gives GOP Hope in PA Senate Election
The GOP has had a rough go of it lately trying to get a Senate seat back in PA.
This race was no different, as Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) has been crushing GOP candidate Dave McCormick.
If the CNN poll is not an outlier, however, that race has suddenly tightened up despite big spending by Democrats to defend the seat.
Can He Win
McCormick has been losing ground to Casey since taking the primary race.
In August polls, the closest McCormick could get was about six points, and in the most recent YouGov-CBS Poll, McCormick is down by 7%.
However, a recent CNN poll had McCormick within two points of Casey, which is creating panic among Democrats and hope among Republicans.
McCormick, who has been endorsed by Trump, does not nearly have the war chest of Casey.
Democrats have been raising money hand over fist, while the money train among Republicans is starting to dry up.
To that point, Casey has been hammering TV ads against McCormick, which is why that CNN poll is so disturbing to the Democrat Party.
Now, this could be an outlier, sandwiched between two polls with larger deficits, or it could be a new trend, but we won’t know that until we see a few more polls.
The funny thing about this race is that support has seemingly flipped, with the blue-collar workers in the state supporting McCormick and the elites now supporting Casey.
To that point, McCormick, during a recent campaign event, stated, “For the 60% of Pennsylvanians who are living paycheck to paycheck, that’s not specific to party. That’s everybody — independent voters, Republicans, Democrats.
“A wide-open border, the fentanyl crisis, that’s killing Pennsylvanians. That affects everybody.”
This is also a state that is up for grabs in the presidential election, with Harris now having a 0.7% lead in national averages, but the two of them continue to flip-flop in support in the most recent polls.
This state is now front and center not not only in the presidential election but also in the battle of which party will control the Senate in 2025.
