Larry Nassar, Convicted of Abusing Olympic Gymnast, Stabbed Multiple Times in Prison

Larry Nassar, a former doctor convicted for sexually abusing female gymnasts, was stabbed several times by a fellow inmate.

The incident occurred on Sunday at Penitentiary Coleman in Florida, according to the report.

"One of the people said Nassar had been stabbed in the back and in the chest. The two officers guarding the unit where Nassar was held were working mandated overtime shifts because of staffing shortages, one of the people said," according to the Associated Press.

"The people were not authorized to publicly discuss details of the attack or the ongoing investigation and spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity," it added.

"Both people said that Nassar was in stable condition as of Monday, and one said that he had been stabbed in the back and the chest," the Hill noted.

"Nassar was sentenced in 2018 to decades in prison for sexually assaulting gymnasts, including medalists on the U.S. Olympic team. More than 150 victims spoke or submitted statements during Nassar’s weeklong sentence hearing," it continued.

Among those who were reportedly abused by Nassar included Olympic great Simone Biles, with more than 100 women seeking damages from the FBI for stopping Nassar after accusations against him in 2015.

Nassar was not arrested until 2016 by Michigan State University police during an investigation that led to his later conviction and prison sentence.

The convicted felon now faces medical issues after the reported stabbing.

Though expected to survive, Nassar faces a long road to recovery following the multiple stab wounds.
