Lara Trump takes name out of contention for Marco Rubio's Senate seat
Amid his nomination to serve as secretary of State, Republican Sen. Marco Rubio is poised to create a key legislative vacancy in the state of Florida.
Though she has been considered a front runner for the opening, which is set to be filled by Gov. Ron DeSantis, GOP political powerhouse Lara Trump has just withdrawn her name from consideration from the job as NewsNation reports.
Lara Trump withdraws
It was not long after her father-in-law tapped Rubio to serve as America's top diplomat that Lara Trump's name arose as a potential contender to fill his Senate seat.
Prominent figures ranging from Sen. Lindsey Graham to Maye Musk sang her praises and offered support for her potential candidacy.
However, despite previously expressing a willingness to serve if asked, Lara Trump took to X to take herself out of the running altogether.
“After an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement from so many, I have decided to remove my name from consideration for the United States Senate,” she explained.
Lara Trump added, “I could not have been more honored to serve as RNC co-chair during the most high-stakes election of our lifetime, and I'm truly humbled by the unbelievable support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida,” and she also wished DeSantis “the best of luck with this appointment.”
Successful year comes to an end
Trump, 42, ascended to the role of Republican National Committee co-chair back in March, going on to help orchestrate her father-in-law's decisive win over Vice President Kamala Harris in November.
She recently announced her decision to step down from that role at the RNC's next meeting, noting that she had achieved everything she had hoped to do when she took the job alongside co-chair Michael Whatley.
“At the RNC, we had three distinct goals: 1) surpass all fundraising records 2) build the largest army of lawyers and poll watchers to ensure election integrity and, 3) turn out millions of Americans and low propencity voters during early voting,” Mrs. Trump declared.
She then added proudly, “We accomplished all three.”
Now that she has taken her name off DeSantis' list of prospects for the Senate job, it remains to be seen what Lara Trump will do next, however she has hinted that something significant may be in the offing, telling supporters to “stay tuned.”
