Lara Trump Pulls Name from Consideration for Florida Senate Seat

Lara Trump is out, but I am not quite buying her reasoning.

Trump announced this weekend that she was pulling her name from consideration to replace Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) after he takes his position as Secretary of State.

The general consensus is that she was just trying to save face when it became clear that Governor Ron DeSantis had no intention of filling that seat with Trump.

I’m Out

On Saturday, Lara Trump posted on X, “After an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement from so many, I have decided to remove my name from consideration for the United States Senate.

“I could not have been more honored to serve as RNC co-chair during the most high-stakes election of our lifetime and I’m truly humbled by the unbelievable support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida. I have read so many of your kind messages and I cannot thank you enough.

“I do have a big announcement that I’m excited to share in January, so, stay tuned.

“I remain incredibly passionate about public service and look forward to serving our country again sometime in the future. In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best of luck with this appointment.”

My guess here is that Lara may run for office in North Carolina, and Donald Trump had encouraged her to do so before.

As I had stated in other reports, there is still some bad blood between Trump and DeSantis, so I honestly don’t think she was ever a serious consideration unless DeSantis somehow joined the Trump administration (he was being floated as a possible Defense Secretary).

My belief is that DeSantis will appoint an ally to this seat that will be willing to give up the seat in 2026, which is when Rubio’s term was slated to end.

I think DeSantis will run for the Senate in 2026, forgoing the 2028 election instead of JD Vance being the likely favorite for serving as Trump’s VP.

This will keep DeSantis relevant for the 2032 or 2036 election if Vance loses in 2028.

DeSantis would only be in his 50s at that point, still relatively young for a president.
