L.L. Bean Heiress Dead at 82
One of the more iconic names in American business has passed away.
Heiress to the L.L. Bean brand, Linda Bean, has died.
She was 82 years old.
Sad Day
Bean’s cause of death was not yet revealed, but the tributes poured out online after word of her death started to travel.
The announcement came via Bean’s business manager, Veronika Carlson.
She stated, "Linda was known for her amazing work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit as well as her pride and dedication to her home state of Maine and L.L. Bean, the company her grandfather founded.
"Our hearts go out to her family and friends."
Bean’s empire went well beyond the infamous clothing brand, as she had founded Perfect Maine Lobster company, as well as owning multiple general stores, vacation rentals, and inns.
Bean was also a major donor to the Republican Party and was not one to hold back on her opinions.
In 2017, her company faced boycotts for having supported Donald Trump, but Bean did not back down.
At the time, she stated, "It’s bullying.
"They want to control how we spend our money, what we buy, where we buy it. That’s wrong, it’s un-American."
Senator Susan Collins (R-MA) shared her memories of Bean, stating, "Linda Bean loved the State of Maine. Its coastal communities, islands, and art, particularly by the Wyeths, had a special place in her heart.
"Linda also was an astute businesswoman who promoted Maine lobster through her restaurants. Many a time while waiting for my plane in Portland, I had a cup of her famous lobster stew at her airport restaurant."
I can remember being in school and the L.L. Bean clothing being the “in” thing at the time, as I am sure most others in my age bracket remember as well.
This is an iconic American brand, and it is one that has supported many Republican candidates over the years.
Rest in peace, Ms. Bean.
