Kevin McCarthy Says He Will Serve Country in New Ways

Last week, many people were stunned when Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) announced that he was not running for re-election and would be resigning his seat effective December 31, 2023.

As it turned out, his last formal day in Congress would be last Thursday.

McCarthy gave an impassioned speech on the floor, letting everyone know that he was not quite done just yet.

Still Serving

Prior to McCarthy’s floor speech, he had announced that he was resigning his seat in a Wall Street Journal op-ed.

In that article, he wrote, “I have decided to depart the House at the end of this year to serve America in new ways. I know my work is only getting started.”

There are two ways that I believe he will continue to serve.

First and foremost, McCarthy will more than likely remain active as a fundraiser for Republican candidates.

The man was a machine as the Majority Leader, raising more than $500 million during the last two election cycles.

He raised $215 million during the 2020 cycle and an astounding $350 for the mid-term elections. He had already put $80 million in the till for the 2024 cycle when he resigned.

Republicans are going to need the help, too, because Speaker Johnson has only raised a hair more than $6 million during his entire career.

As part of that fundraising, McCarthy will surely be very selective in where this money goes, as I expect him to exact some revenge and possibly back a challenger to Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).

Secondly, I think McCarthy will be an integral part of Trump’s campaign team and more than likely be given a significant role in the Trump administration if Trump wins the nomination and general election.

My money would be on McCarthy serving as Chief of Staff, with his leadership role in Congress being a natural segue to that position.

We will not have to wait long to see if my prognostication skills are on point, as the election gets underway as soon as the holidays are over.
