Kevin McCarthy Has Officially Left Congress
Former GOP Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is gone, finally.
McCarthy had stated that he would resign his seat effective the end of the year, but with the House recessing for the holiday, his final floor speech was given last Thursday, and now he is gone.
He did not go quietly, however, landing a few jabs as well as pointing to how we could see him again very soon if Trump wins the upcoming election.
I’ll Be Back
McCarthy’s floor speech was about as one would expect, but it was what he said after that caught my attention.
McCarthy made it quite clear that he holds a grudge against Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who floored the motion to vacate against McCarthy.
On Gaetz, McCarthy stated, "He doesn't care about anything else.
"People study that type of crazy mind, right? Mainly at the FBI. And so, I think from the perspective, history will prove right what we did."
In another interview, McCarthy, after saying he does not support Trump making his administration about revenge, made it clear that once the ethics probe is completed against Gaetz, he thinks he will and should be expelled from Congress.
In the same breath, he stated that Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) should not have been expelled, which I think is just ludicrous.
The bombshell, however, came when McCarthy was asked if he would serve in Trump’s administration if he were to win the 2024 election.
McCarthy responded, “In the right position, look, if, if I’m the best person for the job, yes.
“Look, I worked with President Trump on a lot of policies. I, we, worked together to win the majority.
“But we also have a relationship where we’re very honest with one another.”
To me, that position would likely be Chief of Staff, which would be an utter nightmare for Gaetz.
