Kerry Commits to Shutting Down Coal Plants During COP28

The war against fossil fuels by the Biden administration is real, and if there was any doubt, Biden’s climate envoy, John Kerry, dispelled it during COP28.

Kerry made it quite clear that the hourglass for coal plants in this country is running out of sand.

He pointed the finger at coal plants as one of the main culprits in the climate change war.

Stop Them Now

When Kerry got the microphone, we all knew some grand statement would come out of his mouth to make an impact, and he did just that.

Kerry stated, "We will be working to accelerate unabated coal phase-out across the world, building stronger economies and more resilient communities.

"The first step is to stop making the problem worse: stop building new unabated coal power plants."

Kerry also committed the United States to join the Powering Past Coal Alliance, currently boasting about 60 countries as members who have promised to phase out coal-fired power stations.

Currently, the United States produces about 20% of its electricity via coal, which Biden wants to replace with wind and solar power.

This attack against the coal industry has already begun, as Biden gives more subsidies to clean energy while raising various fees and taxes for the fossil fuel industry, making it harder to compete economically with clean energy options.

Institute for Energy Economics and Finance Analysis expects that by 2040, almost 230 coal-fired plants will have been shut down in this country.

One of the casualties of this push is the Brandon Shores coal plant outside of Baltimore, which can power about one million homes. It will be shut down come June 2025.

The United States shutting down its coal operations means little in the overall picture, however, as China recently announced that it will be dramatically expanding its coal-power generation.

China currently accounts for more than one-quarter of global emissions, a number that will rise significantly with the expansion of its coal power stations.

As I have stated many times, until you get China and India on board with this, this entire movement is swimming upstream doing nothing more than costing the American citizens more money to power and heat their homes.
