Kennedy gains ally to ban food stamps being used for junk food
One of the reasons Donald Trump wanted Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in his administration was his obsession with making this country fit again.
Obesity is running rampant, especially among children, even more so in our poorer communities.
One way to fight that is to prevent the use of food stamps for purchasing junk food, and now Kennedy has found an ally in US Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins.
Let’s Do This
We have all seen people at the supermarket or corner store whipping out food stamps to pay for sodas, sugary snacks, and prepared foods loaded with carbs and empty calories.
Then we wonder why so many children in this country are so fat.
Kennedy wants to block the use of food stamps to buy this junk food, and Rollins appears to agree.
She stated, “I look forward to working with Bobby Kennedy as we figure out, do we have the healthiest choices?
“So when a taxpayer is putting money into SNAP, are they okay with us using their tax dollars to feed really bad food and sugary drinks to children who perhaps need something more nutritious?”
She also welcomed DOGE coming in to take a look at the books to try to find waste in her department, adding, “Oftentimes, these government programs are started with the idea that you’re going to help people — it’s not a handout, it’s a hand up — and then years later, the programs are even bigger, and you’ve got more people on them.
“And are we really giving people a hand up, or is it instead a handout?”
The obesity issue is a problem in this country, as we all know, and when it happens in poorer communities, it puts an even larger burden on the taxpayer because these obese children wind up as obese adults, all on public programs, which means we are also paying for additional health care to treat problems such as diabetes and heart issues developed because of a lack of exercise and healthy diet.
I fully support Kennedy dropping the hammer on this type of spending as well as finding additional waste in these public assistance programs.
