Kennedy family divided over release of secret JFK files

After President Donald Trump made the announcement that he would declassify the private files of John F. Kennedy’s assassination, the Kennedy family started feuding.

Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of JFK, is one family member who opposes Trump’s decision to declassify the documents.

Schlossberg took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, where he took a public shot at Trump in a recent post.

He accused Trump of using John F. Kennedy as a “political prop.”

“Not part of an inevitable grand scheme. Declassification is using JFK as a political prop when he’s not here to punch back. There’s nothing heroic about it,” Schlossberg said.

“JFK conspiracy theories -- The truth is a lot sadder than the myth -- a tragedy that didn’t need to happen,” he wrote in another post.

However, other relatives of John F. Kennedy praised Trump for his decision to declassify the documents.

Those relatives include the nephew of John F. Kennedy and friend of Trump, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. who said, “I’m very grateful to President Trump,” regarding Trump’s plans to declassify the notorious files.

“I think it’s a great move because they need to have more transparency in our government, and he’s keeping his promise to have the government tell the truth to the American people about everything,” said Kennedy.

Other members of the Kennedy family have been calling for the declassification of these documents for years, including Former Rhode Island Rep. Patrick Kennedy.

Patrick Kennedy, the son of Ted Kennedy and the nephew of John F. Kennedy, told Politico News in 2021, “I think for the good of the country, everything has to be put out there so there’s greater understanding of our history.”

One thing is certain -- the decision to declassify the assassination records of John F. Kennedy has left the family members divided.

Do you agree with Trump’s decision to release the documents?
