Kathy Hochul ready to fire Eric Adams due to Trump deal
There has been speculation that New York Gov. Kathy Hochul might be ready to fire New York City Mayor Eric Adams due to some of his legal troubles.
The mayor has been in the midst of legal turmoil for some time, and now President Donald Trump could be putting his finger on the scales, as NBC reported.
The seriousness of the issue was recently demonstrated when attorneys for New York City Mayor Eric Adams and prosecutors from the Department of Justice were summoned to appear in court by a judge.
This was done in order to provide an explanation regarding the Department of Justice's request to dismiss criminal charges against Adams.
Major Issues
As a result of seven prosecutors, including the acting United States Attorney for Manhattan, Danielle Sassoon, resigning rather than complying with an order to make that request, attorneys for the Department of Justice requested the judge to throw out the complaint.
Concerns have been raised regarding the possibility that the Trump administration has reached an agreement to dismiss the case in exchange for Adams helping with the enforcement of immigration rules.
The order issued by Manhattan United States District Judge Dale Ho indicates that he will not give his approval to the Department of Justice's highly unusual request to dismiss the case.
Eric Adams, the troubled mayor of New York, along with his attorneys and prosecutors from the Department of Justice, were forced to appear in court on Wednesday afternoon by a federal judge.
Resignations
Seven of the Department of Justice's most senior prosecutors, including several who were directly involved in Adams' case, resigned from their positions last week in protest over the department's attempt to dismiss the case.
It is stated in the decision that judges "should be satisfied that the reasons for the proposed dismissal are substantial."
This statement is taken from documents on the case that was only recently heard in the appeals court on Adams's possible misconduct.
The New York governor is famously leaning to the left, and likely is beholden to a number of more liberal groups that might want her to reject anything related to the current president.
