Kamala Harris and Emhoff Caught in Country Club Scandal

Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, have found themselves in the midst of a racist accusation.

Emhoff is a member of the ultra-exclusive Hillcrest Country Club in Los Angeles.

The club is now facing a lawsuit from Matthew Winnick, who claims the club is “racist.”

Another Country Club Scandal

Just to give you some context on the club itself, Hillcrest was founded in 1920.

The club was opened to give Jewish people their own club because, at the time, other social clubs were discriminating against them.

The club has hosted several pro tour events, including the 1929 PGA Championship.

To this day, the club’s membership is largely Jewish, but it has opened itself to non-Jewish members, with stars such as Danny Thomas, Frank Sinatra, and Sidney Poitier all having been members.

The filing by Winnick stated, “Perhaps no institution embodies the racial disparities and resistance to change more starkly than the infamous Hillcrest Country Club.

“While every-day Angelenos have advocated for progress and equality, Hillcrest has itself maintained its core principle of exclusion, under the pretext of exclusivity.”

Winnick claims he is being discriminated against because he is in a biracial marriage, with his wife being of Hispanic heritage.

Winnick complained to the club about discriminatory behavior, and now he says the club is trying to retaliate against him.

Winnick provided an example of attending a birthday party where the club president, Jason Kaplan, screamed, “Callate” across the table, which is Spanish for “shut up.”

Winnick stated that he approached Kaplan about it after the fact for an explanation, explaining, “Kaplan was displeased with Plaintiff questioning him, telling him: 'You want to mess with me?'”

The suit also accuses Kaplan of sexual assault.

This drips down into Harris and Emhoff because the couple once told the Los Angeles Times during an interview that Hillcrest is among their favorite places in the city to go, not exactly a good look for a biracial power couple, one of them being the vice president of the United States.

You can read the full details of the suit on the DailyMail, including the text of the lawsuit.
