Judge Reinstates Gag Order Against Trump in Letitia James Fraud Case

I hate to say I told you so, but…

The gag order that was temporarily paused against Donald Trump is now back in place.

On Thursday, a state appeals court ruled that the order against Trump that blocked him from attacking members of the court was to be reinstated.

Not a Violation

Trump’s legal team had argued that the gag order was a violation of Trump’s First Amendment rights.

The gag order had been temporarily suspended when the appeal was filed by Judge David Friedman.

Friedman expressed concerns about Trump’s constitutional rights and ordered the gag order suspended until the arguments could be heard and ruled upon.

That ruling came down on Thursday, with the four-judge panel reinstating the order without explanation.

The initial order was put in place by Judge Engoron, who has been a bit polarizing himself during this trial.

Trump has been hammering Engoron, plaintiff attorneys for Attorney General Letitia James, and members of the court from the outset.

Attorneys for James argued that Trump’s comments were leading to threats to the members of the court, so Engoron placed the gag order on Trump, also hitting him with two violations that resulted in $15,000 in fines.

Engoron also told Trump that future violations may include jail time.

When the order was suspended, Trump went back to posting insults about Engoron, James, court members, and just about anyone else involved in this case who is not on his payroll.

I even stated at the time that Trump was not helping his case with these inflammatory comments, but he just kept firing away.

The moment the new order came down, Engoron appeared giddy, warning that he would “rigorously and vigorously” enforce the reinstated order.

Trump lawyer Christoper Kise responded, “Tragic day for the rule of law.

“In a country where the First Amendment is sacrosanct, President Trump may not even comment on why he thinks he cannot get a fair trial.

“Hard to imagine a more unfair process and hard to believe this is happening in America.”
