Jordan Loses More Support in Second Vote

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) went backward on Wednesday instead of forward.

During the first House vote, Jordan had obtained 200 votes, but he only had 199 votes in the second vote, as members were just wasting votes to make a point they would never support him as Speaker.

There remains a significant resistance to Jordan who have vowed never to support him as Speaker for backing Donald Trump’s 2020 election claims.

Uphill Battle

If you guys recall, when Donald Trump’s name was mentioned as Speaker, I said it would never work because there were members of Congress who despise the man on the right side of the aisle.

It turns out, they feel the same way about Jordan, and as far as I can tell, he is never going to change their mind.

Not only that, but the people voting for Rep. Scalise (R-LA) and McCarthy (R-CA) held firm, refusing to back Jordan even though both of those members have thrown their support behind Jordan.

Jordan, who had previously vowed not to floor a vote until he knew they had 218 votes, has now called for two votes without knowing for sure that he had enough support to win the gavel.

After the most recent defeat, Jordan stated, “We don’t know when we’re going to have the next vote but we want to continue our conversations with our colleagues.

“We’ll keep talking to members and keep working on it.”

With the uncertainty, there is now more pressure being put on the GOP to extend the powers of Speaker Pro Tem Patrick McCarthy (R-N.C.) so they can at least start to pass legislation.

The Israel situation is bearing down on the GOP and with the House currently frozen, the Republican Party looks like it is being run by a group of petulant children.

Honestly, I have no idea who they could elect as Speaker that would get the full support of the caucus, but they better come up with a name soon.

To hear members talk, it is not discussion going on, but rather attacks, which could explain why Jordan lost support instead of gaining it. For instance, Rep. Steve Womack (R-AR) stated, “Frankly, just based on what I’ve been through – I can only speak to myself and what my staff has been through over the last 24 or 48 hours – it is obvious what the strategy has been: Attack, attack, attack. Attack the members who don’t agree with you, attack them, beat them into submission.”

Rep. Don Bacon’s (R-NE) wife received a text message that read, “Your husband will not hold any political office ever again. What a disappointment and failure he is.”

I am not sure if these idiots realize it or not, but they are collectively destroying the Republican Party and the conservative movement.

This inability to elect a new Speaker is only giving Democrats ammo and all but assuring them that they will hand the House right back to Democrats in the 2024 cycle.

Their pride is going to crush this country. Find a speaker who everyone can be happy with and give him or her the gavel. Stop the nonsense.
