Johnson Will Push for Israel and Ukraine Aid

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has been taking heat from both sides of the aisle regarding military aid for Israel and Ukraine.

The left is hitting him for holding up the aid, while the right is criticizing any aid for Ukraine without more accountability.

Johnson wants to put this all in the rearview mirror, so he is expected to make a big push this week on these packages.

Johnson is now also being attacked by the media, with the Associated Press recently publishing a scathing report on the subject.

The report, in part, stated, “The Republican speaker has sat for two months on a $95 billion supplemental package that would send support to the U.S. allies, as well as provide humanitarian aid for civilians in Ukraine and Gaza and funding to replenish U.S. weapons provided to Taiwan.”

Johnson addressed this over the weekend while making an appearance on Fox News on Sunday.

He stated, “The details of that package are being put together right now. We’re looking at the options and all these supplemental issues.”

Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), who recently started a feud with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, hinted that if a package comes before the Senate, he will put it on the floor immediately.

Schumer stated, “It’s vital for the future of Ukraine, for Israel and the West.”

Biden has been calling for this aid package for weeks now, so anything that comes across his desk is expected to get signed on this front.

To that point, it was reported that Biden had “discussed the urgent need for the House of Representatives to pass the national security supplemental as soon as possible.”

Most Republicans want to see that aid going to Israel, so that will not be the issue here, but the aid to Ukraine is another matter altogether.

For Ukraine aid to get passed, Johnson will have to ensure that it includes all the provisions Republicans have been demanding, which include accountability to ensure the aid is not winding up on the black market.
