Johnson Says Motion to Vacate is ‘Distraction’ from Real Mission

After the House passed the $1.2 trillion budget deal that was loaded with earmarks, some members of the GOP House were not exactly thrilled with Speaker Johnson (R-LA).

In fact, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-CA) announced a motion to vacate against Johnson for passing the bill that had more Democrat support than Republican.

Johnson has brushed aside the criticism, however, calling the motion to vacate a “distraction” for what he is trying to accomplish right now.

Clock is Ticking

Johnson recently discussed the issue with Fox News, hinting that Democrats will pounce if they do not see a united front on behalf of Republicans.

He stated, “The Democrats know when we don’t all stand together with our razor-thin majority, then they have a better negotiation position.

“And that’s why we got some of the things we didn’t like.

“Now we fought like warrior poets to keep some of the Senate earmarks out of the bill, and we were successful in getting a lot of the terrible stuff out, but a few of them made it through, and that’s what Marjorie’s upset about, and I am too.”

He concluded, “That’s what Republicans are for. That’s the transformational kind of changes that we can forge if we all stand together.”

Former Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) was also critical of members going after Johnson rather than discussing the primary issues at hand…

We are far too close to the election for this constant dissent to be present in the House.

If we lose the House and Donald Trump wins the election, exactly what will be accomplished?

The answer to that question is rather simple… nothing.

If Rep. Jeffries (D-N.Y.) gets the gavel, it will be a complete and utter disaster because he will block every piece of legislation that Republicans want to put on the floor, and this is making the rather large assumption that the GOP can take back the Senate in this upcoming election.

We got crushed in the 2020 election, and the 2022 and 2023 cycles were also disasters, so this could be the last real big opportunity for Republicans to dominate an election cycle.

Simply put, Republicans need to start acting like the adults in the room rather than airing their differences publicly and handing Democrats another win.
