Joe Manchin Shakes Up Election with Talk of Romney as Running Mate

The 2024 election got really interesting for about 15 minutes this week.

During a recent panel discussion, Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) toyed with the idea of having Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) as his running mate.

The idea went over like a box of rocks getting tossed out of an airplane, but it sure did cause a state of panic in the Democrat Party.

Hypothetically…

Manchin was answering a hypothetical question, but was it?

Manchin has been toying with this idea for months, so it seemed to me a bit more that he was testing the waters with a bipartisan ticket.

So, you really have to pay attention to the end to get the reaction when Manchin suggests that he would ask Romney to be his running mate…

Before we go any further, I need to say that on Friday, Manchin put the idea to rest, stating that he would not be running for president in this election, but not before Dems needed a defibrillator.

While there is not a lot of third-party polling, the ones that do exist are not good news for Joe Biden.

Then, when you look at a Manchin-Romney ticket, you really have to ask if anyone even considering voting for Trump would pull the handle for that ticket… I think we can all agree the answer to that question is a firm “no.”

However, while talk of this was circulating, Dems were going off.

Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) was clearly hoping that Manchin would not run, stating, “I think it would be very, very unfortunate if Joe Manchin decided to do that.

“I know he’s a supporter of President Biden and has been an important person here in the U.S. Senate in terms of getting things done. And he knows that if he were to step in [to the race] that it would make it much more likely Donald Trump would be president again, and I know Joe Manchin doesn’t want that.”

Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) also saw doom and gloom in the forecast, stating, “My reaction is disappointment, deep disappointment. At his core, I think Joe Manchin is a Democrat and believes in Democratic values and principles.

“I’m deeply disappointed that he is still even talking about a possible run that would undermine Joe Biden.

“The simple stark fact is that a Manchin run for president would undercut Joe Biden.”

I would have never pulled the handle for this ticket, but man would I have loved to see it wreak havoc in the election.
