Jimmy Carter 'no longer awake every day,' family says

Jason Carter, grandson of former President Jimmy Carter, just confirmed heartbreaking news.

After nearly a year and a half in hospice, Jimmy Carter is said to not be awake every day.

It would appear that Jimmy Carter is in his final days on earth.

Jason Carter’s direct quote was that his grandfather “isn’t awake every day.”

As the oldest grandchild of Jimmy Carter’s 22 grandchildren, Jason Carter gave an interview to Southern Living in which he revealed a rare look inside the life of his grandfather.

Carter opened up about how difficult life has been for the former president since the passing of his wife of nearly 80 years.

He went on to say that his grandfather is “experiencing the world as best he can as he continues through this process.”

“After 77 years of marriage… I just think none of us really understand what it’s like for him right now. We have to embrace that fact, that there’s things about the spirit that you just can’t understand,” Jason Carter continued in the interview.

He did not stop there, going on to touch on a special moment between him and his 99-year-old grandfather.

“I told him, I said: ‘Pawpaw, you know, when people ask me how you’re doing I say, ‘honestly I don’t know.’ And he kind of smiled and he said ‘I don’t know, myself,’” Jason Carter continued.

No matter how you feel about Jimmy Carter’s political views or time spent as president, you must admit it is admirable to have accomplished so much in a lifetime.

Not many can ever say they got to spend 77 years married to their best friend.

And, obviously, only a few will ever get to say that they were President of the United States of America.

We hope that Jimmy Carter’s final days are spent peacefully next to his family.
