Jill Biden's former spouse blasts first lady for urging husband to stay in race

Jill and Joe Biden have long enjoyed telling the story of how their decades-long romance began, but the official account has also been the subject of criticism and accusations of dishonesty from the current first lady's ex-husband.

Now, Bill Stevenson, who was married to Jill Biden between 1970 and 1975, has stepped forward to blast his former spouse over her treatment of the president and her apparent insistence that he continue his bid for another four years in the Oval Office, as Fox News reports.

Former husband speaks out

Stevenson spoke about his former bride to the New York Post over the weekend and expressed surprise -- and indeed outrage -- at her recent behavior.

“The Dr. Jill Biden who I've seen on TV in the last five years is not the same person I married or that I recognize in any way,” Stevenson declared.

He went on to add, “She's matriculated into a completely different woman.”

Stevenson's remarks came in the wake of Joe Biden's arguably disastrous Thursday debate performance and the first lady's subsequent spin suggesting that the commander in chief is in full possession of his faculties and more than prepared to win in November.

Of particular annoyance to Stevenson seemed to be Mrs. Biden's remarks at an after-debate event Thursday night in which she attempted to whip up support for her husband by patronizingly telling the president, “Joe you did such a great job. You answered every question, you knew all the facts.”

More harm than help

In Stevenson's estimation, Jill Biden is, at least at present, more of a hindrance to her spouse than a help and that her insistence on his continued presence in the race is more about her than about Joe Biden.

“I just don't understand why she is so adamant about defending him and keeping him in the race since it appears that he's struggling. It appears that he's struggling with everybody these days,” he observed.

Stevenson proceeded to offer a broader critique of the Biden campaign, saying, “It makes me cringe every time he calls Trump a liar because I'm telling you right now, there is no better liar than President Biden. He's just a bad person. I'm probably one of the few people outside his family who has known him for 50 years.”

Bitter history explained

According to Stevenson, Joe Biden's dishonesty goes back to the first days of his relationship with Jill, a scenario the first lady's ex-husband says has been the subject of years of fabrications and exaggerations.

As he detailed back in 2020, Stevenson says that Biden was a homewrecker who began an affair with his then-wife even before he became a widower and before Jill sought a divorce, a situation which, if true, makes his enduring antipathy toward the pair all the more understandable.
