Jill Biden teaches her last community college class
First Lady Jill Biden has just taught her last class at Northern Virginia Community College.
The Washington Post reports that Biden, who is apparently known by her students as "Dr. B," taught her last class on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2024.
This comes as Biden is also spending her last days in the White House, after her husband, President Joe Biden, was forced aside by Democratic Party leadership.
In other words, many things would seem to be coming to an end for the Biden family.
The latest:
According to the Post, Biden announced that she was stepping away from NOVA during a recent virtual event that she held.
Per the outlet:
Biden, an educator for 40 years and a longtime community colleges advocate, announced she was stepping away from NOVA during a virtual “thank you” event with teachers around the country. She said being the first lady was the “honor of my life,” but being an educator “has been the work of my life.”
The outlet goes on to quote Biden as saying, "Last Thursday, I taught my last class of the semester and my final class ever at Northern Virginia Community College."
She continued, "I know you will continue to push our nation forward in a way that only teachers can, making sure that our students are front and center."
The big question now is whether Biden intends on giving up teaching for good.
Looking forward
At the moment, it is unclear whether or not Biden ever intends on teaching again. She has not provided a definitive answer one way or the other. It would be the end of a long career.
The Hill reports:
Biden began teaching English at the community college in 2009, after Joe Biden was elected as vice president. She began her teaching career back in 1976 at a high school in Delaware. She later became first first lady to continue a full-time career after her husband became president.
Biden made the above remarks at a recent event alongside Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, and Becky Pringle, president of the National Education Association.
Incoming President Donald Trump is looking to take American education in a different direction from the likes of Biden, Weingarten, and others.
Reports suggest that Trump may even order the closure of the U.S. Department of Education. While some Democrats are outraged by the idea, many believe that such a move could go a long way in improving the education of our children.
