Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) is talking out of both sides of his mouth right now.
After the GOP failed to elect Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) as the House Speaker, Jeffries attacked him as the “poster child of MAGA extremism.”
What Jeffries fails to mention, however, is that he voted to boot Speaker McCarthy (R-CA), contributing to this mess.
I have stated before that I was behind the idea of removing McCarthy, but Rep. Gaetz (R-FL) never should have done that unless he had a plan in place to replace him without resistance.
Instead, he flew by the seat of his pants, and now we have complete chaos in the House, and Democrats are using it to hurt Republicans.
Jordan has now failed twice to get the support he needs to get the gavel, actually going backward in the vote, but he is vowing to continue on until he gets it.
He says this even though there are at least four members who vowed never to support him, and he cannot lose any more votes than that.
There have also been whispers that Democrats are working some kind of deal with a group of Republicans that could possibly give Jeffries the gavel, which would be a crushing defeat and all but ensure that Dems take the House back in 2024.
Jeffries even confirmed that “informal talks” are taking place right now. Jeffries added, "My hope, now that it's clear Jim Jordan lacks the votes to be speaker, is that those conversations will accelerate this evening.”
He further stated, "It's time to get off the sidelines, break away from the extremists. Get in the arena, so we can find a bipartisan path forward."
Right there, the reporter should have asked him if he wanted to get away from extremists, then why did he vote with one to oust McCarthy, who had, by all accounts, been working with Jeffries.
Every day that passes without the GOP having a Speaker just provides more ammo for Dems and brings us one step closer to getting our butts kicked in the 2024 election.
Sadly, these members of the GOP today do not seem to get that, as they are too worried about walking around with their chests out. At some point, they all need to bury their pride and get back to work… or they will be out of work.
