James Clyburn to Step Down from Democrat Leadership Position
It is not exactly a secret that GOP leadership is in turmoil right now.
However, the Democrat Party is facing a similar situation after a bombshell announcement was made by Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) this week.
Clyburn announced that he would be stepping down from his leadership position in the Democrat caucus.
He’s Done
Clyburn is 83 years old, so it was a bit shocking to hear him say that he wanted to remain in leadership when former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced that she would step away.
Most of us thought when Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) stepped up to his leadership position, it would be all new blood coming in with him.
Clyburn, however, was the last of the old guard that wanted to stay in power.
That all changed this week when Clyburn announced, with no reason, that he would be leaving leadership.
Clyburn stated, “Events of the last several years have made it clear that the greatness of America is at peril, and the threats to our continued pursuit of ‘a more perfect Union’ are real.
“I look forward to continuing to work alongside my Democratic colleagues in the 118th Congress, and beyond, to regain a Democratic Majority, retain our Senate Majority, and rally Americans to reelect President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.”
Clyburn is the reason that Joe Biden became president, so this has to be a major blow to Biden’s presidential campaign.
Heading into South Carolina during the 2020 election, Biden was almost dead in the water behind Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), but then Clyburn endorsed him and revived his campaign.
By the end of Super Tuesday, it was evident that Joe Biden was going to be the nominee, and he had Clyburn to thank for it.
Now, Clyburn joins Pelosi and Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) is relinquishing control of the Democrat caucus.
