Jack Black Ends Tenacious D Tour After Bandmate's Comments
Tenacious D is comedy rock group that is made up of comedian Jack Black and Kyle Gass.
Notice I did not tag Gass as a comedian… because he is not funny.
As a matter of fact, his comments are why Tenacious D has likely played its last show.
Bad Taste
During a recent show, Tenacious D was celebrating the birthday of Gass.
When Black told Gass to make a birthday wish, he proclaimed, “Don’t miss Trump next time” before blowing out the candles.
What was even more disgusting than his wish was the ovation he got from the Australian crowd.
I give props to Jack Black doing the right thing after the show, which was canceling the remainder of the tour and from the sounds of it, disbanding Tenacious D.
The next day, Black announced, “I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form.
“After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold.
“I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”
Gass later tried to clean up his mess as well, stating, “The line I improvised Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake.
“I don’t condone violence in any kind, in any form, against anyone.
“What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgment.”
I believe Jack Black, however, I do not believe Gass.
That was how he felt, and if there was not pushback and if his career was not in jeopardy, I doubt we ever would have heard an apology from him.
What he said was disgusting, and I would say the same if a conservative comedian said something of the like if there was an attempt on the life of a Democrat.
That is simply unacceptable, period.
