J.D. Vance makes biscuits with 3-year-old daughter in viral video

A video in which Vice-President-elect J.D. Vance explained and demonstrated how to make biscuits with his three-year-old "sous chef" Mirabel went viral on X, garnering 7.6 million views, over 200,000 likes and positive comments from viewers.

On Christmas Eve, Vance posted the video with the caption, "Baking some Vance family biscuits with the world’s best three-year-old sous chef. Merry Christmas everyone!"

“Today we are going to learn to make biscuits, because I feel like biscuit making is a lost art, and I think that every American family should have good biscuits on their table during Christmas dinner,” Vance said in the narration.

Remember when?

He demonstrated in detail how to make the biscuits, including shredding frozen butter with a cheese grater and folding the dough to get layers.

His daughter poured in the ingredients and Vance laughed a little when she poured in a little extra salt.

He then showed the finished product and brought his two sons on camera to say "Merry Christmas!"

One user commented on the post, “Guys… remember when @KamalaHarris pretended she could cook, and @Tim_Walz  pretended he could work on cars? This is SO not that."

Elon Musk, who owns X, responded to the video with a heart emoji.

Down to earth

It's refreshing to see an elected official in such a high position who seems like a normal person doing normal things.

Vance seems really down to earth in the video, demonstrating his cooking and parenting skills.

As he wrote in his best-selling book "Hillbilly Elegy," he grew up in less-than-perfect circumstances in Appalachia with a mother who struggled with addiction and grandparents who had very modest resources.

He became a lawyer and vastly bettered his circumstances, but seems to remain grounded by faith and family.

Wonder if he will hold onto that humility after being Vice-President and maybe president after that?
