Italian prime minister meets with Trump at Mar-a-Lago

US President-elect Donald Trump had some strong words for Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni as she became the latest world leader to drop in and visit him at Mar-a-Lago.

The discussion must have gone well because Trump hailed her as a "fantastic woman" after it was over.

We all know how quickly Trump can turn on people who don't give him what he wants (just ask Mike Pence), so it says a lot that the president-elect is praising Meloni, giving Americans hope that Italy and the USA will be working well together during Trump's second term in office.

Meloni, who became prime minister in 2022, helped found the country's Brothers of Italy party, which is now the most conservative government to take control there since the days of World War II.

Trump didn't go into a ton of detail about what he discussed with Meloni, simply saying "we're just having dinner tonight."

"This is very exciting," Trump told a crowd at Mar-a-Lago. "I’m here with a fantastic woman, the prime minister of Italy. She’s really taken Europe by storm."

Trump and Meloni were joined by nominees for the roles of secretary of State and National Security advisor, namely, Sen. Marco Rubio, a Republican from Florida, and Rep. Mike Waltz, a Republican from Florida.

While we know very little about what was discussed at the meeting, Meloni's visit signals that Italy (and possibly other European countries) are looking to strengthen ties with America as we have such a strong leader coming into the White House.

However, Trump isn't the only American leader with whom Meloni is meeting.

CNN indicates that "Meloni will also meet with President Joe Biden during the latter’s trip to Rome this week. Biden will thank her for her 'strong leadership of the G7 over the past year, and discuss important challenges facing the world,' a White House press statement last month said."

Do you think the meeting between Trump and Meloni is anything to get excited about?

Was real progress made between the two countries, or was this simply a political show?

Either way, let's hope that Donald Trump's government is the most successful in American history. If Meloni really is on the president-elect's side, that's another step toward making it happen!
