Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal appears to be slipping out of reach

It would appear that the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas is becoming less and less likely to happen.

According to a new report from the Washington Post, this is because Hamas is now making new demands.

This is a big blow to the administration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who are brokering the deal.

What has to be emphasized in all of this is that it is not Israel but Hamas who is preventing the deal from going through.

The latest

According to the Post, the ceasefire deal is now on "life support."

Per the outlet:

President Joe Biden’s months-long push for a cease-fire and hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas has been upended again in recent days, putting the deal on life support as U.S. officials say they have indefinitely postponed their plan to present the two sides with a “take it or leave it” proposal.

As mentioned, what has placed the deal on "life support" is a new demand from Hamas.

The Post reports that the demand regarded "which prisoners Israel would release."

As a result, the Post writes:

Biden’s chances of ending the 11-month war in Gaza and bringing home the remaining hostages before he leaves office appear ever more remote, making it more likely that he will end his presidency without mediating an end to the conflict that engulfed his final year in office and threatens to tarnish his legacy.

A big admission

The Daily Caller reports that the Biden administration has been trying to secure a ceasefire deal for months.

"The months-long drive to get a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas — and secure the release of American hostages in Gaza — has hit several obstacles, mostly related to terms that neither side has been able to agree to," the outlet reports.

It adds:

The administration, which has put forward or endorsed several ceasefire proposals already, has recently been planning to make a new “take it or leave it” proposal that included provisions to help close the gap between Israel and Hamas’ demands for a deal . . .

Now, however, this has been put on an indefinite hold.

The Post admits, in its report, that "Negotiators increasingly fear that neither Israel nor Hamas is truly motivated to reach a deal." The surprising bit here is that the left-wing Post is admitting that Hamas - rather than just Israel - is to blame for the lack of a ceasefire deal. This certainly undercuts the narrative that has been pushed by the left.
