One of the biggest debacles of this presidency, and there have been quite a few of them, was the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan.
The media, for some reason, gave Biden a pass on the matter.
Well, now that the GOP has the House, investigations are taking place.
Breitbart News is reporting that one of the Marines injured in that withdrawal just dropped an absolute bombshell regarding the events of that day.
Could Have Been Prevented
The Marine, Sgt. Tyler Vargas-Andrews, believes he had eyes on and was denied permission to shoot.
He testified, "I requested engagement authority while my team leader was ready on the M110 semi-automatic sniper system. The response: leadership did not have the engagement authority for us. Do not engage. We asked him if we could shoot. Our battalion commander said, and I quote, 'I don't know.'
"Eventually this individual disappeared. To this day we believe he was the suicide bomber … plain and simple we were ignored."
While wiping tears away from his eyes, he stated, "I'm thrown 12 feet onto the ground, but instantly knew what had happened. I opened my eyes to marines dead or unconscious lying around me."
That attack never should have happened. It could have been prevented, but the higher-ups, as noted by the Sgt., had no idea what was going on at the time.
He went on to describe something that I cannot even imagine seeing in person.
He stated, "Some Afghans turned away from [the airport] tried to kill themselves on the razor wire in front of us that we used as a deterrent. They thought this was merciful compared to the Taliban torture that they faced."
I did not like the idea of the deal when Trump negotiated with the Taliban, and I surely did not like the way Biden left the country. While I surely wanted us out of the Middle East, there had to be a better way.
I am not sure that young man will ever get those images out of his head, and that lies on Biden.
